Spring Craft of the Day: Grungy Patchwork Seed Bag

Today's Spring Craft of The Day is; Make a Grungy Patchwork Seed Bag!
If you follow these directions, you will land up with a nice medium sized bag~
(Back view)
Time to complete: about an hour.
You will need:
-Cut 20 - 3" squares of fabric, 10 of each pattern. They will be layed out 4 rows of 5, alternating.
-Fabric for the back.
-Scissors, sewing machine, needle and thread, a patch for the word "SEED",
-Paint and stamps ~or~ the word  "seed"  may be sewn.
-Antiquing medium, such as walnut ink or instant coffee. I used walnut ink.
-A baking tray, oven set on low(150-200) Supervise contantly.

I cut out a 3" x3" template on cardstock, and traced out my 20 squares onto the back of the fabric.
Once I cut them out on the line, I arranged them.
I then sewed the smaller vertical between each square. I turned the strips over, and pressed them all to the left. I then pinned each horizontal strip (right sides togther) and sewed the horizontal strips together.I pressed  the finished patchwork piece.
I then placed my patchwork rectangle on top of a piece of fabric, (which will be the back)and cut the fabric the same size. Placing the patchwork and fabric right side together, I sewed up one side. (Horizontal right.)
Picture BELOW: I folded the top of the joined pieces down twice, to form a hemmed draw. I sewed that draw hem closed, along the bottom of the hem.
Then I sewed the other side and bottom, ***leaving a hole to feed the twine, at the top, (of the draw.)***
So don't sew the other side right up to the top.
I drenched the bag into my antiquing medium, and threw it in the oven. Once it was dry, I created my "seed" patch, sewed it on very primitively.(I placed a book into the bag, placed my bag onto my work table- so when I sewed the patch, so I wouldn't accidentally sew the bag together.)
I fished my draw string through using a small stick, attaching the twine to the stick using tape. Once I had it through, I cut the tape off, and pulled the drawstring.
I am so pleased with how this turned out~!!
I hope you enjoy yours as well! I hung mine off my kitchen curtain rod.
